Biography at time of election

Dr Raymond Jones has an outstanding record of distinguished achievement in tropical pasture and animal science.

He is noted particularly for his discovery that the toxin in the tropical fodder shrub leucaena could be detoxified by microbes sometimes found in the gut of ruminant livestock.

This finding has revolutionized current scientific thinking on the biotechnology of rumen micro-organisms.
