Robert Evans pioneered the development of SilviScan for the rapid, automated analysis of funamental wood properties. The precise sensitive analysis of small samples is central to many international academic and commercial projects concerning the improvement of trees and their most valuable end-use, as solid wood products, and for papermaking. Many countries already pay CSIRO for the analysis of their samples and an international database has been established. H.M. King Carl XVI of Sweden presented Dr. Evans with the 2001 Marcus Wallenberg Prize (the Nobel Prize of the Forest Industries).
