Biography at time of election

Professor Boswell has made sustained, innovative contributions to fundamental and applied plasma physics for mroe than twenty years, with special emphasis on space physics, plasma-surface interactions, and opto-electronic device fabrication. He is internationally recognised for his pioneering and definitive work on all aspects of plasma production by helicon waves, which has become the dominant method of plasma processing in semiconductor device fabrication. He was isntrumental in the development of the WEDGE, a low-cost virtual reality theatre with wide applications.
