Progressing from education by correspondence in a Queensland country town, Dr Fardon graduated BSc with Honours in Brisbane, and obtained a PhD in geochemistry as a Fulbright scholar at Harvard University.

He worked as an exploration engineer in Western Mining Corp, BHP and Jododex
and has participated in discovery and evaluation of many major projects in several countries.

As General Superintendent of Exploration at BHP he was responsible
for exploration strategy and participated in formulation of corporate policy.

In Technomin and APR Ltd he promoted and commercialised new mineral technologies in Australia and overseas.
As Director General of Department of Mines and Energy in South Australia, he has re-invigorated mining company exploration by sophisticated geophysical programs.

Dr Fardon's standards of excellence and vigorous approach to professional interests commend him for consideration for fellowship.
