Professor Pond is one of Australia's and the world's leading experts in clinical pharmacology and toxicology. As a distinguished physician and a research scientist, she has made substantial contributions to the treatment of poisoned patients, the understanding of many fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics, and the elucidation of mechanisms of the neurological side-effects of drugs used to treat schizopphrenia. Professor Pond has been innovative in her application of new technologies, not only in developing an extensive range of techniques for research, but also in using a vast array of analytical tools in her quest to reduce human suffering. Her workd has led to recognition of Human Clinical Drug Sciences as one of the University of Queensland's Instituional Research Strengths since 1991. Her outstanding contributions have been recognised by several awards (including member of the Order of Australia), appointments to roles of great responsibility, invitations as lecturer and Chairmanship of the Australian Drug Evaluation Committee.
