Biography at time of election

Based on an earlier career as an aeronautical engineer involved
with aircraft design in England and the Aeronautical Research Laboratories in Melbourne, he joined Monash University in 1967 where he began the work that founded research and professional practice of wind engineering in Australia.
At Monash, he has designed and supervised construction of two major wind tunnels and formed a consultancy practice which, during the past 15 years, has provided design data for most major new structures erected in Australia, as well as many in Asia and New Zealand.
He was appointed to the Chair of Fluid Mechanics at Monash University in 1975 and since then has served almost continuously as Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is widely known internationally and was for four years Chairman of the International Association of Wind Engineering. He has also served as Editor of several monographs in this discipline and has himself published over 100 research papers and reports.
