ATSE welcomes expert panel on university research

11 November 2020

The Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering (ATSE) welcomes the Federal government’s decision to establish an expert panel to look at improving the commercial outcomes for university research.

The Education Minister Dan Tehan said the group of business and university leaders will advise on how to turn ideas into jobs, opportunities and innovation.

ATSE Chief Executive Kylie Walker said it’s pleasing to see the Minister has chosen a panel that has deep industry expertise.

“The world needs innovative solutions to ever more complex problems, which means collaboration between our cutting edge researchers and industries is vital,” Ms Walker said.

“It will be critical to support jobs growth as we recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Two of the expert panel are ATSE Fellows: Professor Michelle Simmons, the Director of the Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computation and Communication Technology, and the Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel.
