Professor David Nethercot has distinguished international influence on structural engineering research, education and practice, and the interface between these. He has been at the forefront of structural steelwork research and development for some 40 years, and in particular has contributed to design code development as Chair of the BSI main committee for the code on structural steel design for over 25 years, as well as to the Eurocodes. He has major involvements in engineering education through his membership and chairmanship of the Accreditation Board in the UK, and reviews of many engineering schools internationally, including in Australia.
