Dr Geoff Garrett's technical and scientific expertise and his outstanding management skills have moved CSIRO out from a low point to where it is once again valued and trusted by Government and the key agencies with which it interacts.

Garrett took over leadership of CSIRO in January 2001 after leading CSIR South Africa through a major organisational transformation leaving it in a strong position. Prior to this role, Garrett had a dsitinguished academic career in metallurgy.

Garrett has revitalised CSIRO by emphasising the pursuit of excellence in science and business development.
