In recognition of his distinguished achievements in the field of military engineering and in the higher organisation planning, direction of operations and management of the Australian Forces.

General Gration has had high responsibilities in management of military engineering activities as Colonel, Director of Engineers, and as Major-General Commanding Logistics Command.

His principal achievements, however, have been in broader direction and leadership of the Australian Army and of the Australian Defence Force with its seventy thousand mean and women and high dependence on military technology.
His leadership has been innovative and of the highest quality and of significant benefit to the Australian community.
