Academy Fellow, Distinguished Professor Min Gu, has been appointed Executive Chancellor of the University Council at University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST).
USST has also named him Distinguished Professor for Future Optics in the School of Optical-Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The optics trailblazer was elected a Fellow in 2006 and is a Foreign Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. “I will promote collaboration opportunities between (the two academies),” he said.
A renowned authority in nanophotonics, Distinguished Professor Gu has made global breakthroughs in big data storage, super-fast internet, renewable energy and 3D holography.
His work has earned him numerous accolades, including the Dennis Gabor Award in Diffractive Optics.
Distinguished Professor Gu leaves his position as Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship and director of the Laboratory of Artificial-Intelligence Nanophotonics at RMIT University.
He will be an Honorary Professor at RMIT for three years.
USST is a comprehensive public university established in 1906. Globally regarded for its scientific and technological research, it one of the three “Key Universities” in Shanghai.
Distinguished Professor Gu begins his position in May.
