ATSE suggests that the Code guides are developed to provide flexibility and follow-up monitoring is undertaken to provide valuable information on the success of the changes to the Code.

Along with Australia’s other Academies, ATSE has been involved in consultations with the ARC, NHMRC and Universities Australia, who are currently revising the Draft Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research.

The Academy is in strong support of the new approach to the Code being principles-based, as the new simplified model provides greater clarity to institutions and researchers and their responsibilities. The creation of guides as accompaniments to the Code will provide valuable topic-specific information to institutions, as they adjust to the changes.
