Daniel Westerman plays a national leadership role in Australia’s transition to net zero emissions.
As CEO and Managing Director of the Australian Energy Market Operator, Daniel is ultimately responsible for the operations and planning of Australia’s energy systems and markets. Since becoming CEO in April 2021, Daniel has overseen a 50% growth in the connection of renewable energy to the National Electricity Market, world leading records for the penetration of renewable energy in large power systems, and is leading AEMO to progressively remove barriers to operating Australia’s power systems with 100% renewable energy.
Daniel advises Australian governments on how best to enable a successful energy transition and is a trusted communicator, regularly guiding the Australian public through the transition to renewable energy. He is a strong advocate for STEM careers, diversity & inclusion in all forms, and women in the energy sector.
