A global expert in artificial intelligence (AI), technology and data science, Professor Joanna Batstone is the inaugural Director of the Monash Data Futures Institute. She forges partnerships between academia, government and industry to harness the power of AI and data science for social good.
Before her academic appointment, Joanna spent three decades at IBM, working in top technical and executive roles. She oversaw the research and development of innovative AI products and solutions for real-world problems. She also led cutting-edge AI research projects, including on cancer healthcare, energy efficiency, transport and finance.
With a strong commitment to build a diverse research workforce, Joanna is a champion for designing, developing and delivering AI that is good for people and the planet.
